History
The Adelaida Cemetery was started by Wesley Burnett in the late 1800s. The first to be buried there was Mary K. Burnett, Wesley’s wife, in 1878. It is said that Adelaida Cemetery is haunted by a ghost named Charlotte Sitton, who wanders the cemetery every Friday night from 10 PM to 12 AM.
It is widely believed that Charlotte was the wife of a minister and committed suicide in December 1890, at only 19 years of age. Her child (some versions of the story say “children”) died during a diphtheria epidemic. On her Friday visits, she leaves flowers at her child’s/children’s grave(s). Charlotte wears a long white nightgown, and, on occasion, a pink dress; she tends to materialize near her grave or her child’s/children’s grave(s).
Both Paso Robles and Adelaida are heavy in paranormal activity, including a bleeding tree that is said to drip blood out of its bark. During the day, it gives off an odd feeling and attracts unusual people.
