History
After Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, Andrew Johnson became the 17th President of the United States. A tiny, two-story gambrel-roof house in Mordecai Square, Raleigh, North Carolina was where Johnson was born in 1808. There were only a few windows in the home, making it difficult to see without electricity or candles. His ghost is said to linger around in the home, bearing a spectral candle that can be seen in the downstairs window.
One November afternoon, an employee of the Raliegh Historic Properties known only as “Ms. M” was the only person in the building, involved in a project in the main office. Quickly, she left the house, overwhelmed with the sensation of someone watching her. Hurrying to the front of the house, she was startled by a floating candle in the window that disappeared promptly.
It reappeared on the second floor shortly thereafter. Having happened so quickly, it would have been an impossible feat for a living person. Many have been witness to such occurrence. The house is still haunted to this day.
