History
The Northern State University, located in Aberdeen, South Dakota, has two notable haunted locations; Jerde Hall and the Johnson Fine Arts Center.
Many students in Jerde Hall have experienced the haunting of a little girl. One student saw her in a mirror, only to turn around to find that the girl wasn’t there. Another heard the girl’s voice, but only found an empty hallway. Late one night, a student woke up to see the little girl at the end of the bed, raising her fingers to her lips as if to “shh” the student. The student screamed, and the little girl ran out of the room slamming the door behind her.
Build in the early 1970s, the Johnson Fine Arts Center is one of the newer buildings on campus. Whistling can be heard in the men’s restrooms even when no one in the room is whistling. The lights in the makeup room and costume shop turn on and off by themselves. The sound of invisible keys have been heard jingling in the seating area even when it is empty. One night, they were heard rattling, which was preceded by a loud crash on the platforms that were set up on stage.
Another time, a ball of tape was thrown at a small group of students, and the wheelchair lift began to function on its own. After the sun goes down, many students who pass through the front hall say that there was an “intensely creepy feeling that induced the need to hurry up and leave”.
