History
Tampa, Kansas was utilized by pioneers trying to make it to California during the Gold Rush.In the northeast corner of the town, there is a Santa Fe Trail marker and a pointer that exhibits ruts created by the pioneers’ wagons. Despite being in near-ruin today, the old grade school was said to be a “spectacular sight” in its day. According to the 2000 census, Tampa only had a population of 144 people.
